Japanese digital manga service Comico will shut down on January 6, 2027, ending a run of more than 13 years. Operator NHN comico will begin winding down the platform on August 31, when new releases, rental updates, coin sales, and new account registrations will stop. Manga purchases and rentals will then end on September 28, although users will be able to read previously purchased titles through the final shutdown date.
For readers who have built libraries on Comico, NHN comico is preparing a transfer system with the Japanese digital manga service Mecha Comic. Eligible titles registered as purchased in a user's Comico bookshelf by September 28 can be transferred during a period scheduled from January 7 through April 30, 2027. Not every title is guaranteed to qualify, so readers will need to check the transfer details for their collections. Unused paid coins will also be eligible for refunds during the same period.
Comico launched in Japan in 2013 and became an early home for smartphone-oriented, vertically scrolling manga and webtoons, including series such as ReLIFE. Some ongoing Comico titles are already directing readers to Mecha Comic for future chapters, making the closure not only the end of the original service but also a transition for both its readers and creators to another digital platform.
