The Ribbon Hero, a new anime film inspired by Osamu Tezuka’s classic Princess Knight manga, will premiere worldwide exclusively on Netflix on August 8. The production marks the franchise’s first new anime project in 27 years and gives international audiences immediate access to its latest reinterpretation of Princess Sapphire’s story.

Yuki Igarashi, whose animation credits include JUJUTSU KAISEN and Star Wars: Visions, makes his feature-length directorial debut with the film. The final trailer arrived alongside additional Japanese voice-cast details, including Saya as Sapphire, Seiran Kobayashi as Zirco, Koki Uchiyama as Velvet, Mayumi Shintani as Pine and Yoshimasa Hosoya as Rock.

Netflix describes the story as following Sapphire after the destruction of her kingdom, as she awakens as the Ribbon Hero and fights to prevent her new home from suffering the same fate. Although Netflix has confirmed a worldwide release, details about English dubbing and other localized audio options have not been announced.
