NTT DOCOMO will shut down its U.S. digital manga service MANGA MIRAI at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time on December 15, 2026. New account registration, manga purchases, app distribution, and in-app reading already ended on August 19, although existing customers can continue reading purchased titles through the MANGA MIRAI website until the service closes.


Customers who want to keep access to eligible purchases will need to create or maintain a MangaPlaza account using the same email address as their MANGA MIRAI account by September 30. MangaPlaza, operated by NTT Solmare, will begin making eligible transferred titles available around the shutdown date. Some purchased titles may not transfer because MangaPlaza lacks the necessary licenses, while users under 18 are also ineligible because MangaPlaza requires users to be adults. Customers affected by those restrictions will receive separate instructions about refunds.


MANGA MIRAI launched in the United States in March 2025 through a partnership between NTT DOCOMO, Akatsuki Group, Media Do, and MyAnimeList. It grew from more than 780 titles at launch to roughly 2,400 titles and 28,000 volumes before DOCOMO announced that it would discontinue the service “in light of the current business environment.”
